5 Relationship Habits You Don’t Realize Are Toxic

1. Over-protection and jealousy mean they just love you a lot:When I was younger, I thought if someone cares so much it means they really love you a lot. They love you so much they act irrational sometimes.Someone’s inability to control their irrational thoughts should never be taken as a sign of true love.

 2. Letting them “win” is taking the higher road;
You don’t understand why your partner is so upset, or you don’t get why they can’t see it your way, and it feels like the argument is going nowhere. So you decide to just give it to them, tell them “Okay” or “You’re right” so it can end, but this is not ok,The reality is that this tactic is over-used, resulting in a lot of arguments which are never actually resolved because the “high road” Use some introspection, actually hear what your partner is saying, and talk about it like grown ups.

3. Putting your partner’s needs way above yours: You want them to know you treasure them, so you do all you can to show them that you care about their needs a lot more than your own. The sentiment is lovely, but if you continuously neglect your wants and needs for your partner’s, you’ll end up frustrated or burnt out.

 4. Intense or frequent fights are just a side effect of true love: The couple that’s passionately love fights fiercely or frequently because that’s how much they love each other. All that passion just boils over into rage sometimes, it’s a sign that you’re truly in love. This is typically a myth. How this idea came to be I will never know, but there should be nothing romantic about routine and/or spiteful disputes. At best you could be ignoring real problems in your relationship because you think this level of fighting is normal, and at worst it could be the prelude to an abusive relationship.

 5. Keeping score of the other person’s wrongdoings is just self-protection ;Okay, so you messed up, but your partner totally messed up that one time so they have no right to get mad at you. An eye for an eye, right?Neither of you end up actually working through anything because you’re too busy playing the Who Messed Up Worse game. If you’re bringing up something that happened a while ago, chances are you aren’t actually over it and that conflict was never resolved, either. Lose-lose.

Soledad

This was written by a good friend. Sena Kodjokuma

My hands are reaching out,
Just to brush the tips of your fingers,
Before it finds me again,
The darkness.
I am rolled and basted in it.
Deep fried.
Garnished with hollow,
Oh the longing!
Just to brush the tips of your fingers,
Yet the darkness finds me.
I feel so....
Alone.
How is it I can see you?
Lucid,
Yet you cannot see my hands reaching,
Just to brush the tips of your fingers.
You need only look down,
Into this pit,
To see my hands,
For while you scan the sky,
To reach out for my hands,
I am rolled and basted,
Deep fried in this darkness.
I feel so...
Alone.

14 Benefits of lemon

14 Amazing Benefits of Lemon:

  1. Cure for acne. Lemon contains antibacterial properties that can kill off the P. acne bacteria, fight infection and inflammation, and clear clogged pores.
  2. Whiten your teeth.  Make your own teeth whitening treatment by mixing lemon juice and baking soda, applying to it your teeth, and leaving it on for 60 seconds. The acid and sodium bicarbonate break down the coating coloring your teeth.
  3. Deal with dandruff. Lemon juice can kill off the bacteria causing dandruff, so apply it to your scalp with olive or coconut oil.
  4. Balance your pH. Lemons are surprisingly alkalinic, and they can help to balance your body’s internal pH.
  5. Flush your intestines. Lemons increase muscle contractions in your intestines, ensuring regular bowel movements that will flush the toxins and waste material. Just a glass of lemon water every morning can do the trick!
  6. Provide vital nutrients. You’ll find that these tasty citrus fruits are loaded with potassium, calcium, phosphorus, citric acid, and magnesium–all vital minerals your body cannot live without.

  1. Deal with inflammatory pain. Did you know that lemons can help to deal with the pain of swollen joints? It will fight off the uric acid that is causing gout, thereby reducing the presence of the crystals that makes gout such a painful problem.
  2. Cleanse your organs. Lemon contains citric acid, which can dissolve calcium deposits, kidney stones, and even gallstones. Flush all these potentially painful build-ups from your organs to keep them running smoothly.
  3. Detoxify your liver. Drinking warm lemon water is a good way to show your liver some love, as lemon helps to detoxify this vital organ. It will stimulate the production of bile, dissolve uric acid, and get rid of toxins and poisons in your body.
  4. Protect your heart. Lemons are rich in Vitamin C, a nutrient that has been linked to improved heart health. Vitamin C can lower blood cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of atherosclerosis, lower blood pressure, increase the production of HDL (good) cholesterol, fight off free radicals, and lower blood lipoprotein levels. All in all, it’s a very useful, heart-friendly vitamin.
  5. Improve brain health. Lemon peels contain a special phytonutrient called tangeretin. This potent nutrient has been proven useful at treating brain conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, as it protects the brain cells from decaying.
  6. Boost your immune system. Lemon is one of the best immune boosting foods, as the Vitamin C will help to fight off bacteria, parasites, fungi, and viruses in your body. It can destroy intestinal worms and even fight off cancer thanks to the 22 anti-cancer nutrients and compounds it contains.
  7. Soothe chapped lips. Applying a bit of lemon to your lips will help to prevent chapping, and can exfoliate the lips to remove dead skin cells. Rub lemon on at night and wash it off the next morning for the ultimate lip-healing remedy.
  8. Strengthen your fingernails. If your fingernails are yellow and brittle, it’s time to apply a mixture of lemon juice and olive oil. The oil and acid mixture will harden your nails, preventing them from cracking or breaking easily. It can strengthen the nail beds, and will even whiten them when they have turned yellow.

Wow, lemons truly are some of the most useful fruits on the planet! Thanks to the Vitamin C, citric acid, and minerals it contains, you can improve your health drastically by using lemons.

    Effects of excesive drinking.

We all know that drinking too much alcohol is bad for us, but do we know how bad it really is?  Drinking too much be it on a single occasion or over time can seriously damage your health. Some vital organs are affected when we drink a lot. let me shed some light on some of them.
    • Brain:
      • Alcohol interferes with the brain’s communication pathways, making it harder to think clearly and move with coordination.

    • Heart:
      • Cardiomyopathy – Stretching and drooping of heart muscle
      • Arrhythmias – Irregular heart beat
      • Stroke
      • High blood pressure

      LIVER
    • Steatosis, or fatty liver
    • Alchoholic hepatitis

If you drink a lot, perhaps cutting it out right away will be tough. Cut down the number of glasses you drink each time, followed by the number of times you drink a week.

    My Thoughts

Familiarity they say breeds contempt. This may be true for some, but more often, familiarity makes people take each other for granted. Just because you have been friends with someone for a while doesn't mean you know them totally  or just because you have dated for a couple of years doesn't mean you should stop doing nice things for each other, or you stop asking how their day went at the end of the day.

Not everyone is looking for a long-term relationship, but most people who are in committed relationships are interested in keeping love alive for the duration.

Say "thank you" often and sincerely, and say it for even the most mundane things.Like making you laugh when you are grouchy or not exactly in the mood. Sub consciously, your partner will feel appreciated.

Learn to argue well. Some couples may be afraid to argue, believing that it's a sign that they aren't compatible or fearing that the argument will be the end of the relationship. Others use it as a prelude to passionate make-up sex. However, couples who know how to argue well find that it strengthens their connection with each other, and a strong relationship is a safe space for airing differences.(I read  a book somewhere which triggered this thought).

My ways of getting over a hungover!

When you start feeling dizzy, you want to throw up, pain and headache which are dominantly felt some hours or the day after your drinking spree. Drinking can be fun but its after math  varies from person to person.

My personal list to cure a hung over are as follows

*Eat something heavy if you know you are going to drink a lot when you step out.(This is a pre hungover prevention method).

                                     But when the hangover happens,

*If you feel the need to puke, puke it will make you feel better. Most of the alcohol which hasn't yet been digested will come out. This will reduce how long the hungover will last.

*Drink lots and lots of fluids. Obviously nothing alcoholic.Water helps reduce the concentration of the alcoholic level in your blood.fruit juices helps you get over hungover due to the vitamins they contain.

*Sleep helps the body build up its metabolism. Some painkillers can aid in the process when your take that rest.

*Eggs and bananas are some things  you can take as eggs contains cysteine, which removes those hungover-causing alcohol metabolite toxins from your body. Bananas are full of potassium and will definitely come in handy as you may need lots of potassium to replenish lost ones.

*Eat something spicy or hot. I usually eat kenkey and pepper with fish. The spice or pepper stimulates the body to be active.

Getting a hangover doesn’t mean you are sick, taking in drugs to help curb it only means you are abusing the drug.Just flush the toxins out by drinking
lots of fluids and just SLEEP!!!!!

    Good kid,bad company(part 2)

They blew the fire out and then said bottoms up. We all gulped the shots down. It burned, was bitter and it wouldn't go down smoothly but I needed to be a cool kid. So I drank, again and again. Then my head started feeling lighter.

The song being played all of a sudden had lots of beat, I could feel the bass and rhythm move through me. I am not a good dancer so I don't like dancing but at this point I felt like I could dance like Ciara or maybe Chris brown for that matter. I started bumping my head and tapping my feet. Before I realized I was on the dance floor doing only God knows what, yet I felt on top of the world as I swayed my hips in absurd ways.

Soon  I felt the urge to throw up, but I needed to keep it down. I told one of my friends about my nausea, he suggested I take another shot or better still a beer will reduce the nausea, so I kept drinking anyway till a little voice in my head said 'now open up your mind and listen to me. If you take another drink, you might pass out.'

I turned  and looked around no one seemed to notice my discomfort.I wanted to walk out to get some air but I couldn't walk straight. My head felt very light and everything was extra loud.

So I moved from the loud music, to a much quieter place. Well it was a dark corner in the house and since there was no chair to sit I had to lean against the wall.

As I turned my back and pressed my bottom against the wall, I felt something different, this was no wall I was leaning on. I quickly stood up only to be pulled back by his strong and firm hands, I was tipsy and his touch was really welcoming so I let down my guards and leaned on his warm body.

He was bigger and taller than me, so I felt his warm breathe on my neck and I knew he was about to say something so I turned over and kissed him out of the blue.

I had always been the shy reserved type and this felt like the opportunity I'd always wanted to express my sexuality. No talking or petty chit chatting just bliss.

He kissed back with more passion and had his hands all over me. I could feel his heart pound against my body, his " little man"  pressed against my thighs and I felt it's warmth.

He wanted to take my undies off but I held his hands and he stopped. Our lips couldn't get enough of each other. His masculine thick lips and mine soft red ones just seemed to be a perfect fit.

The alcohol started to wear off and the loudness of the music began to wane down so I knew morning was approaching. I ended our kiss with a gentle bite and I dashed away never looking back to even have a glance of the mystery man who's lips were a wondrous pleasure.

    Good kid, bad company...(part 1)

I tend to have people who technically live their lives out of the bottle in my life.So I remember I once asked them why they drink. Some said they liked the way it feels, some people want to kill their sorrows, some people want to fit in with the 'cool' crowd.
Initially that was my problem, I wanted to fit in with the 'cool' crowd. Anytime I went out with friends, everyone drank except me. They will ask me time and time again why I won't drink. I didn't have a reason.
As usual, one day my friends and I went for a private party in another friends house. Everyone was drinking, I could see that as they were getting tipsy, the more fun the party was for them. So then I decided to try alcohol for the first time.Since the party was a private party, there were no bar tenders, you chose the kind of drink you wanted and poured as much as you needed. I got myself a red plastic cup and poured myself something sweet with less alcohol.I took a small sip and later another small sip. I wasn't enjoying it.
Then one of my friends came by and said to me 'Maa why are you babysitting the drink. This is way too sweet. Come and let's do shots'. So I joined them. They were drinking something called absinthe(I checked the bottle, it was about 45% alcohol). They actually torched the shot. There were flames on the alcohol I was amazed....

    Happy Mother's Day Mum

In know everyone will say their mum is the best. Well mine too is the best although I really don't have a relationship with her. We parted when I was quite young and didn't see her till I was about twenty something.Oh yes it was awkward for a while. But within the short time we got to spend together I realized I do most of the things I do because I bear a striking resemblance to my mum. Personality wise and physical appearance wise. I even write like her. Blood they say is thicker than water.

There are some people in my life who I share no blood bonds with and I still consider them family, but although my mum and I are just cool am glad she's family. I know am not the easiest person to deal with, let alone have me as a daughter, I don't show much appreciation for all you do for me on a daily basis.

I know this isn't cool, to acknowledge you on only Mother's Day but DEAR MAMA, I love you and thanks for everything especially taking time off to re-bond with me.

    Happy Mother's Day Auntie Christie

    Happy foods

If you know me, you know I do love food a lot,I love sweets especially cake and ice cream

You may be curious as to why I love food so much. Food does a lot for the human body. yeah yeah yeah. I know you know about the nutrients and vitamins it gives the body so i wont bore you but you might be intrigued at what you might read in this piece.

Have you ever asked yourself why you feel so good after eating ice cream or chocolate or foods high in sugar?? take 5 seconds, Take a moment to think about what you eat and how it makes you feel.can what you eat affect your mood? Can your diet be part of the equation to reduce stress?. The use of caffeine is one example of a complex relationship. Caffeine, found in tea, coffee, cola drinks and chocolate, is probably the most widely used behaviour-modifying drug in the world. We often choose to drink it if we are feeling tired and irritable, because it can give us a boost and help us to concentrate.

To be honest,I encountered a hard part of my life, I cried my eyes out. After crying for close to 2 days, I was dehydrated and the tears wont even flow. My best friend managed to get me ice-cream and chocolate because  I had a sweet tooth I ate the ice-cream with the bar of chocolate and after an hour I felt better, I loved eating my ice-cream with a stick of chocolate. Any time I would eat this I feel better and  feel very comforted and comfortable. So I decided  find out why and this is what I found;one reason for this is that foods high in carbs and sugar increase levels of serotonin, a brain chemical that elevates mood(I goggled this).

“In the short term, eating foods high in sugar and fat may make you feel calmer and cared for.

You may ask why do people eat a lot when they are depressed, stressed or suffering an emotional break down. When one eats ice-creams, chocolate, yoghurt etc. this contains either lots of milk or sugar or both. From my personal experience  any time am dull I just grab a bar of chocolate or get ice cream or both and sometimes banana. These help make me feel better in terms of mood because of the serotonin levels in them, but everything that has a good side surely has bad sides too.

These sweet foods we eat mostly cause one to gain weight, because our bodies don't let go of the sugar it retains it and then we start gaining weight bit by bit.  so trust the saying'you are what you eat"

    This post is way overdue

People tend to loosen up a lot when out of their region or comfort zone. Being at the odwira festival for the first time, I met new people in fact a lot of them. Some of them had really noble professions and others were students way back in Accra  and Kumasi but here they put everything aside and made sure they had fun,  after all ' all work and no play makes jack a dull boy'.

They were here to have fun and am pretty sure they did. Odwira is the traditional festival of the Akuapem. It marks another year in the traditional calendar of the akuapems. I heard it was fun so I just decided to go. The essence of travelling a whole distance to Odwira was to have fun and let go. Work and school can be stressful so a little fun or out of the ordinary things to do served as a good way to de-stress  The weather here is superb, its cool even in the afternoons not to talk of dawn , you cant see anything with the fog, when you spoke you can actually see vapour coming from your mouth.  I did a small experiment, I put an empty bucket outside at 10 pm and by 6am it was filled with water and am 100% sure it's the fog. Am not surprised people call the Akuapem area  'little London'.   Dancing, drinking and hanging out with friends isn't a new thing but we could all use a change of environment and do really crazy things you won't usually do.

I was amazed at what I saw. I actually sat in a corner with a friend and just observed. It was just fun watching so I can imagine  the kind of fun those who were actually dancing had.Sitting down alone was fun, all we actually did was watch people dance. From where we were sat  it was a different music playing, and where they were dancing it was a different song playing but it looked like they were off beat dancing, it was just fun to watch and laugh our hearts out.

There was this man who was also dressed as a woman, he had the best of dance moves, I won't be shocked to meet him somewhere and he's at his job place. Going to such events always has its perks, I didn't do any dancing or much drinking but just hanging out with friends and getting to look at people and laugh was fun enough.because people actually came for the event it could take up to an hour  or two to use your car to get out of the main town. This show how much fun people can have, everything good has its bad side, because of the crowd people actually got hurt one way or the other. But all in all it was a fun experience.

    SUICIDE ISN'T AN OPTION!!!

With the recent occurrence of suicide incidents in the country, especially amongst the youth I decided to investigate the psychology behind it.

The recent cases all involved students who blamed failure in their exams as the motivation for their  suicide so I decided to find out if IQ played a part in suicide .

Many online have also speculated that there’s a correlation between high IQs and suicide, as a higher IQ
causes the person deal with complex challenges in life.

Animals rarely commit suicide. So why do we? Perhaps the cause of our own species suicide is that we are the only creatures aware of our
mortality and the responsibility of our survival.

A few hundred years ago, life was different. It was simpler. Our sense of ‘individuality’ was way less than it is now. For instance, if you were born into a carpenter family you
had to be a carpenter as well. That’s how it worked out.

But slowly, as our society has evolved, and we’ve been given the
responsibility for our destinies and futures, we are told that we can
become anything we want if we try hard enough. Thus, our lives have
become much more troublesome. Freedom can become a burden.

Freedom of choice places the whole blame and regret of failure on the shoulders of the individual. In the old Indian cast system, for
example, suicides were almost non-existent. An untouchable never aspired to become a Brahman, rather, he accepted his
cast, and his main concern was to find food and shelter. There was no time to worry about depression and suicide.

These days, intelligent people can truly see the magnitude of the scope of possibilities available to them, more than the rest of people around them. This causes them to see through many of the fallacies of society and the meaninglessness of the routine existences and pursuits we all value so dearly.

Martin Voracek, a researcher at the University of Vienna Medical School makes a claim that may shed some light on the suicides of scientists. His startling theory is that suicide can be positively correlated with intelligence — in other words, the smarter people are, the more likely they are to kill themselves.

To back up his theory, Voracek has taken the controversial tables of national average IQ values published recently by Professor Richard Lynn and his colleague at the University of Ulster, Tatu Vanhanen. But instead of correlating these IQ levels with national GDP per head (as provocatively, Lynn and Vanhanen have), Voracek has compared the various IQ averages with national suicide rates.

The results are, prima facie, impressive: there is a strong correlation between suicide rates and national average IQ in most of the countries surveyed.

    For instance, Jamaica, with a low average IQ of 72, has suicide rates of 0.5 for men and 0.2 for women (all suicide figures are per 100,000 person-years). Albania, with an average IQ of 90, has low suicide rates of 2.9 and 1.7. Germany by contrast, with its average IQ of 102, has suicide rates of 21.8 and 8.3;
Japan, with an average IQ of 105, has suicide rates of 25 and 12.

Wherever you look, and whatever the  culture, the same pattern can be seen: in Azerbaijan, Greece, Kuwait and Chile there are lower average IQ levels and lower suicide rates; in Austria, Korea, Singapore and Norway there are higher average IQ levels and higher suicide rates. One exception is the UK, with a relatively high average
IQ (100) and a relatively low (at least for the West) suicide rate — 11 for men and 3.3 for women.

How to deal with body Odour the natural way

There are many ways to deal with body odour naturally, which include dietary and lifestyle changes as well as natural remedies.Natural remedies can help to temporarily eliminate the odour while diet and lifestyle changes can help to eliminate body odour once and for all. Showering frequently and promoting a good sweat on a daily basis can help to eliminate the bacteria and toxins that cause the odour.
Dealing with the underlying cause is one of the most effective ways to deal with body odour as that will help to eliminate it once and for all. there are many causes that include, disease, poor hygiene, lifestyle and a poor diet. Once the cause has been determined, one can then make the necessary changes to eliminate the underlying cause.

Diet;In most cases, body odour is caused by poor diet in leafy greens like kontomire, lettuce, cabbage etc, these greens are high in chlorophyll and fiber, both of which help eliminate body odour. The fiber works in the digestive system and removes the toxic waste before it gets absorbed into the body, also the chlorophyll is an antioxidant that helps to clean and freshen the body at a deep cellular level.

Leafy greens should be introduced to the diet gradually so that the body can adjust gradually as well. At first they will promote hunger, but once the body is fairly clean, they are filling when combined with healthy fats. Dealing with the underlying cause is one of the most effective ways to deal with body odor as that will help to eliminate it once and for all. There are many causes, which include disease, poor hygiene, lifestyle and a poor diet. Once the cause has been determined, one can then make the necessary changes in order to eliminate the underlying cause. This is by far better than to just mask the odor with an expensive chemical.
If the body odour is present the best thing to do is to use natural remedies to temporarily mask the odour, while also looking forward to uproot the underlying cause.

Some Healthy ways to enjoy a festive occasion

At a time like this who thinks about why they eat or how they eat it. There is so much to eat, not to talk of cakes, pies, meat balls, yam balls, chips, chicken. Everything you want to eat is readily available and most times it's free or it's home made. You get so much variety that you don't eat because you are hungry but rather you eat because there is food available. Ever heard the saying " you are what you eat??" Here are a few tips on healthy eating during a festive period

*. Its always best not to eat the skin of poultry. The skin usually tastes really nice, this is because it contains most of the spices used for grilling or frying the poultry. This contains so much cholesterol because of the oil used in basting the poultry or frying it, the skin does not add any nutrient to the body so please try and stay off.

*. During a festive season, we forget about vegetables because there is so much meat and many nice things around us.  Fruits and Vegetables play a really big role in our diets, fruits and vegetables like pineapple and  cabbage gives us fiber and roughage which helps in the metabolism of our bodies. It cleanses or flushes out toxic waste from our bodies. With so much to eat around us adding or eating fruits and vegetables to our meals are one step away from obesity.

*. With pastries it's best to eat baked pastries rather than fried ones. With Pastries like pie or chips it's advisable to take bake ones, this is because fried ones don't digest early compared to baked pastries. Eating baked pastries especially during evenings are best because, they digest faster and gives the body less work to do.

*.Eat only when hungry. Over eating puts a lot of stress on the body. The body doesn't get rest to recuperate. Over eating doesn't add anything to the body but rather makes the body store excess fat and proteins. When over eating of especially proteins continues it can cause gout. Gout is the storage of excessive protein in parts of the body. If the accumulations goes on for a long time, it causes pain because it gets stored in the joints. This makes movement difficult and painful.

    * Don't forget to drink lots of water as well. A friend once told me " save water and drink vodka" very funny comment. Water is really an essential part of our diets. The body is made up to about 70% water. As much tht we have lots of things to drink( juices, drinks, alcohol etc) , we should not forget to drink lots of water. At least 1.5liters of water everyday. This will help flush out all toxic materials from our bodies. Lots of water helps prevent alcohol poisoning. Sometimes when alcoholic content gets into our bodies, we tend to react internally to it and when the body doesn't find a way to push the toxins out, it turns out as alcohol poisoning.
Enjoy any festive season to the fullest but remember "healthy living equals healthy life"
